SUMMARY:Public Talk - The Mystery of the Silent Mind
DESCRIPTION:6.00 pm Friday October 16th \nJoin us for this insightful discussion on the role of our inner silence and inner voices – do we all have them ?\nAnd are they the same for everyone? How do they influence our life? \nThis is a hybrid event and can be attended in-person or via Zoom! \n➡️ To join this event via Zoom\, send an email to meditate@chandrakirti.co.nz  \nDonate via Givealittle  \n \nProf. Anthony Lambert has been investigating the varying experiences of auditory imagery – imagining different sounds such as speech\, music and other sounds.\nThis work has uncovered some interesting associations of auditory imagery with self-control\, mindfulness\, creativity and other characteristics. A primary focus for was to investigate psychological characteristics of people who do not experience auditory imagery at all.  Some individuals do not have the experience of imagining sounds such as inner speech or music in the ‘mind’s ear’; their mental lives seem to be completely silent. The term ‘anauralia’ was coined for referring to this.  It strikes Prof. Anothony that the inner silence of ‘anauralia’ may have much in common with the inner silence cultivated in many spiritual traditions\, especially Buddhism. \nGeshe Jampa Tharchin PhD\, is a Tibetan Buddhist monk\, scholar and resident teacher at Chandrakirti Meditation Center. Geshe Tharchin will speak to this subject from the lense of Buddhist philosophy and psychology. \nTogether Geshe Tharchin and Prof. Anothony Lambert will discuss the topic of ‘inner voices’\, bringing together both scientific and Buddhist thought. \nThis is an open public event – everyone warmly welcome \nKoha or by donation. \nFor further information on Professor Anthony Lambert and the research please follow these links. \n\nProfessor Anthony Lamberts staff page:  https://www.psych.auckland.ac.nz/people/t-lambert\nCome to our conference:  Mind’s Ear and Inner Voice 2025:  https://anauralia-lab.webflow.io/conference\nFind out more about anauralia:  https://anauralia-lab.webflow.io/#\n https://www.royalsociety.org.nz/research/anauralia-the-enigma-of-the-silent-mindnew-research-page/
