The class includes breathing meditation techniques and discussion on how we can improve our experiences of daily life, our inner happiness and relationships.

Chandrakirti will continue to offer the Basic Program - our ongoing 5 year study program designed by the Spiritual Director of Chandrakirti Centre, Lama Zopa Rinpoche. It offers a balanced approach, combining academic training and meditation practice.

The Basic Program is especially suitable for students wishing to study in-depth some of Tibetan Buddhisms most treasured texts. We will be continuing to study Stages of the Path to enlightenment. Using the famous text Middle Length Lam Rim by Lama Tsongkhapa. 

We will be studying 7pm -8.30pm Monday evenings, with discussion from 6-7pm. The module will include homework, final exam, practice weekends. Students can complete one or more modules at our centre and the others at other FPMT centres which offer the Basic Program. Join us for this 7 day residential retreat at the peaceful retreat setting of Chandrakirti Meditation Centre.

The retreat includes teachings on authentic Buddhist principles, guided healing meditations, twice daily yoga, and facilitated discussions. Outside of discussion times, we will keep noble silence.

The retreat is suitable for those new to Buddhism and Yoga, as well as more advanced practitioners.

The investment for the 7 day retreat is $500 which includes healthy vegetarian meals and drinks.

Venerable Losang Namgyel, an Australian Tibetan Buddhist monk, has been living in India and Nepal and studying and teaching Buddhism for more than 30 years.

The meditations will be guided and focused mainly on the breath, gradually moving to being mindful of mental activity, and moving even subtler inwardly to being mindful of awareness itself. Learn also how to focus on mindfulness of motivations, and how to transform them into being compassionate and wise. It will include full days in silence. This retreat will support developing a regular meditation practice.

Through yoga, explore how meditative movement balances the energy in the body and mind.  Use movement to experience a more expansive, calm, and clear mind, which in turn deepens our meditative experience and helps us to uncover our inner clarity.

Geshe-la will lead us in meditation and contemplation on compassion and right living. Based on the famous text Atisha’s Bodhisattva’s Jewel Garland. Geshe-la will share the secrets of developing a good heart and creating the causes for real happiness. Allowing us to overcome anxiety, develop genuine love and relationships, and find deeper meaning and contentment in life. 

Explanation of the Four Secret Mindfulness

Lama Tsongkhapa

24th January—4th February

A deep explanation of the nature of reality and the way we perceive things, with insightful meditation. Geshe-la will teach the four Mindfulness of Emptiness. Personal reflection will be encouraged to help gain experiential understanding of the way things exist. Interpreted from Tibetan to English by Losang Dawa.

All course materials and vegetarian meals are provided and included in the facility fee of $420 for the 7 day retreat, and $600 for the 10 day retreat. Accommodation is a separate cost and can be arranged with the centre, camping is available. The retreats will have periods of silence with no devices, to allow us to deepen our understanding and practice.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of therapy that uses simple hands-on and visualization techniques, with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person. Reiki claims to provide many of the same benefits as traditional massage therapy, such as reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and relieving the pain and symptoms of health conditions. Practitioners have reported success in helping patients with acute and chronic illnesses, from asthma and arthritis to trauma and recovery from surgery. Reiki can been used by doctors, nurses, and other health professionals to bring touch and deeper caring into their healing practices.

Why a Tibetan Monk?

Reiki was re-discovered in the late 1800’s by a  Japanese Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui. This lineage was passed down over the years and received by Venerable Namgyel, a Tibetan Buddhist monk who has been teaching Reiki for 25 years. He brings together his practice of Buddhism with the practice of Reiki, wanting to help and benefit others.
